• When switch ing the ignition on , the needles in the instr ument
cluster move upward briefly

• The illumination for the instrument cluster lights up whenever
you switch on the ignition with the
vehicle headlight s off . As the
daylight fades, the inst rument cluster illum ination likewise dims
automatically and will go out completely when the outside light is
very low. This feature is meant to remind you to switch on the head-
lights when outs ide light conditions become poor. •
Tachometer (engine rev counter)
The tachometer indicates the engine RPfv1 (revolutions
per minu t es).
The tachometer © => f ig . 2 is t he left of the two large clock-type
displays .
The engine tu rns at a speed
1,000 times t he sing le dig it in t he
display, e.g. if the needle is pointing at the "2" the engine is turning
at 2,000 RPM.
If engine RPM drops below 1,500, you sho uld downshift to the next
lower gea r. The red area at the end of the scale indicates maximum
permissible engine RPM after the break- in period . Befo re reach ing
this area, move the selector lever to posit ion "D (Drive)" or ease your
foot off t he accelerator pedal. ..,.
