Seats and storage
After mounting a roof rack system, or whe n yo u transport objects
on the roo f of your ve hicle, t he heigh t of the vehicle is na t urally
increased . Be ca reful whe n driving under low br idges or in parking
garages fo r example. This could cause damage to the load and even
the vehicle itself .
Mounting locations
The roof rack must be attached only at the positioning
bolts.

When insta lling the feet make sure that they are pos it ioned exactly
on the posit ion ing bo lts provided @ bet ween t he side panel and t he
upper roof frame ~ fig . 69 . The posit ioning bo lt is visible as soon as
t he lip of t he sealing strip is pushe d back from t he roof frame with
the tool provided.
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute the loads even ly. Make sure anything
on the roof rack is securely tied down.
- Always distr ibute the loads on t he roo f rack evenly .
- Always attach items to t he roof rack secu rely befor e you
drive off.
The maxim um permiss ible roof weigh t is 165 lb (75 kg) . The roof
we ight is made up of the weight of the roof rack system and the
we igh t of the objec t be ing tran sported.
W hen usi ng a roof rack system which has a lower load carry ing
capacity, you must not use up the total maximum permissible load
carrying capac ity specified above. Instead, you shou ld load t he roof
rack system only to the max imum capacity specified by the manufac-
tur er of the roof rack system.
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to s ecure item s to the
roof rack can fail during hard braking or in a collision and cause
s erious personal injury.
Make sure the roof rack is installed exactly as specified above
~ page 74.
Always us e suitable mounting straps for se curing items to the
roof rack to help prevent items from shifting or flying forward.
Item s on the roof rack must always be securely mounted .
The use of a roof rack can negatively affect the way a vehicle
handles. Cargo that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat will have a
greater negat ive influence on the veh icle's aerodynamics , center
of gravity and overall handling . Always drive slowly, avoid sudden
braking and maneuvers when transporting cargo on the roof of
your vehicle.
Never exceed the maximum permissible load carrying capacity
of the roof of your vehicle, the permiss ible axle weight s and the
permissible total weight of you r vehicle ~
