- Make sure the washer fl uid reservoir in
the engine compartment is topped
off
before going on a Long trip . Look up
<=>page 196for checking and fi lling the
washer container.
- The wipers only operate w ith the hood
complete ly closed.
Headlight washer system
Appl ies to vehicles: with headli ght washer syst em
The headlight washer syst em cleans the
headlights.
.. Operate the windshield wiper/washer sys-
tem <=>
page 51, fig . 55 ® with the head-
li ghts turned on by holding the lever for Lon-
ger than one second.
The washer jets exte nd forward out of the
front bumper driven by water pressure to
spray the front headlights with water.
You should inspect the headlights regularly
(for example when refue li ng) and clean
off
any solid dirt or insects from the Lenses.
To ensure the system works properly in winter,
keep the washer jets free of snow and remove
any ice using a de-icing spray.
Service position
It is only possible to change wiper blades if
you move the wiper arms to the service posi -
tion
I n order t o use the windsh ield wipers, the
front Lid must be comp letely closed
Moving wiper blades to the service
position
.. When t here is a risk of frost, make sure that
the wiper blades are not frozen to the wind -
shield .
.. Switch the ignition on .
.. Move the wiper lever to position

.,. Press the I Reset I button until the Display
type
menu appears in the Driver Informa-
t ion System display.
Clear v ision 53
.,. Using the rocker switch and the I Re s e t ! but-
ton, select the
Set > Wipe rs > Front > Serv-
ice position on
funct ion. The windshield
w iper arms move to the service posit ion.
Moving wiper blade s to park position
.. Make certain t hat the w iper arms are lying
against the windshield .
.. Switch the ignit ion on and move the wiper
Lever from position Oto

The w iper arms will move back to
the park posit ion.
(D Note
Never drive your vehicle when the w ind-
shield wiper arms are in the service posi-
tion and pulled away from the windsh ield .
When you drive faster than 4 mph (6 km/
h), the wiper arms automatically return to
the park position and could cause paint
damage to the front li d!
(D Tips
- You can also turn on the service posit ion,
for example, if yo u want to protect the
w indshield from icing by using a cover.
- The service posit ion moves to
off auto-
matically whe n you operate the w ind-
shield wiper lever, or speed exceeds
4 mph (6 km/h) .
