3.6 Functional description
The exhaust gas treatment system Denoxtronic redu-
ces nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas to satisfy the
limits of the European emissions standard Euro 6. To
achieve this, a precisely metered quantity of a urea–
water mix (AdBlue) is injected into the exhaust gas
stream upstream of the SCR converter. This results in
the formation of ammonia, which is used by the SCR
converter for the chemical conversion of nitrogen oxi-
des into water vapor and atmospheric nitrogen.

The AdBlue is kept in a separate tank in the vehicle.
The tank contains a surge tank with an integrated
suction lance with a prefilter, a heater, a level sen-
sor and a temperature sensor. The delivery module
with the AdBlue delivery pump is located on top of
the surge tank. The pump delivers AdBlue from the
tank to the electrically actuated dosing valve on the
exhaust system at a pressure monitored by a sensor.
Contamination is filtered out by the surge tank prefil-
ter on the suction side and another filter on the pres-
sure side of the delivery module.
