Symptom /
Problem
Checklist
Cause/Action
Poor
recovery rate
Check inlet (A/Corre-
frigeration sys-
tem) pressure
Observe pressure on
inlet gauge (Blue).
If A/Correfrigeration
system has
normal pressure,
proceed to the
next step.
Check basic operation
Close the
RG8.0 / RG4.0
inlet valve. If the
RG8.0 / RG4.0
pulls into vacuum
and shuts-off, pro-
ceed to next step.
Check for leaks
in hoses and con-
nections
Open the
RG8.0 / RG4.0
inlet valve, close on-
ly A/C or refrigeration
system service valves.
If RG8.0 / RG4.0 pulls
down to Vacuum pro-
ceed to next step.
Check Internal sys-
tem leakage.
Perform internal leak
test as
described in the
section7.2
The internal leak
test fails.
Contact Bosch cus-
tomer service.

Problem
Checklist
Cause/Action
The
RG8.0 / RG4.0
does not re-
cover refriger-
ant even though
it is running
Make sure that
black knob on the
RG8.0 / RG4.0 is in
RECOVER posi-
tion (pointing up).
If not, close the
RG8.0 / RG4.0
inlet valve, and when
RG8.0 / RG4.0 shuts
off (LP cut-out), slow-
ly move knob to
RECOVER position.
Check for obstruc-
tions and / or freeze
up in inlet line.
Close the
RG8.0 / RG4.0
inlet valve and allow
the RG8.0 / RG4.0
to shut-off (LP cut-
out activation). Fol-
low the instructions
in chapter 6.2 for
purging refrigerant
Check pressure differ-
ential between inlet
gauge and
manifold gauge.
If there is a pressure
differential, the inlet
filter is blocked or the
inlet mesh screen is
blocked. Could be ice
or dirt. Follow instruc-
tions for purging the
RG8.0 / RG4.0, then
proceed to next step
Visually inspect
inlet filter
adapter and
filter drier for
obstructions
Replace and re-
assemble filters.
Test basic opera-
tion as described
in the section 7.1.
The hoses connecte-
to the RG8.0 / RG4.0
have no obstruc-
tions - the basic op-
eration test fails
Contact Bosch cus-
tomer service.
7.2 Internal leak test
In the event that internal leakage is suspected the fol-
lowing test can be performed to confirm or deny.
1. With nothing connected to the RG8.0 / RG4.0, en-
sure the recovery / purge valve is in the RECOVER
position.
2. Open the inlet valve and close the outlet valve.
3. Start the RG8.0 / RG4.0 and allow it to run until it
shuts off due to HP cut-out.
4. Close the inlet valve. Blue gauge should indicate zero
bar and high approximately 38.5bar.
5. Slowly turn the recovery / purge valve from
RECOVER to PURGE position.
The pressure should drop on the red gauge and
rise on the blue gauge, settling at approximately
equal values.
Note the values and watch the gauges for change
over the next 30 seconds. If there is no significant
pressure drop on either side, the internal
integrity is confirmed.
