Sample is below the detection limit.
Sample is volatile at current detector
conditions.
Sample is being retained on the
column.
Gain is set too low.
Autosampler needle is not pulling up
sample properly, or sample loop
blockage.
Bad laser or other electronics error.
Increase the sample concentration or
injection volume and re-inject.
Lower temperature settings are needed for
semi-volatile compounds. Refer to Section
4.6, Optimization Procedure, for details.
Use a different column for your separation.
Increase the gain value.
Repair or replace equipment as needed.

Change in peak height or loss in
sensitivity
Nebulizer, drift tube, and/or optics are
dirty.
Autosampler needle not pulling up
sample properly, or sample loop
blockage.
Bad laser or other electronics error.
Clean the nebulizer, drift tube, and optics
as needed. Following the cleaning
procedures in Sections 5.1 – 5.4.

Leak(s) (especially between the column
and detector) present.
Tubing between column and detector is
too long or too large of an i.d..
Check for loose fittings and tighten if
necessary.
Use a shorter piece of 0.005 - 0.010" i.d.
tubing.
Sample concentration too high.
Gain set too high.
Decrease sample concentration until peaks
are on-scale.
Reduce gain value until peaks are on-
