of the six leaf
springs
formerly
used. C-71 Models, when equipped
with

ditioning

and
C-72-300
(optional
equip-
ment
on
Model C-71)
with
the
following
re-
finements
and
design
changes
incorporated
to

Direct Clutch
Assembly
-Seven
plates
and
seven
discs
are
used
in
the
direct
clutch
assembly
on
Models C-72, C-73, C-70
and
C-72-300. Model
C-71
retains
the
six
plate
and
s
ix
disc
clutch
assembly.
The
six
plate
clutch
pack
is
not
inter-
changeable
with
the
seven
plate
clutch
pack.
Because
of
the
increased
horsepower
of
Model
C-72-300,
the
direct
clutch
retainer
assembly,
regulator
valve
spring
and
direct
clutch
spring,
have
been
changed.
The
regulator
valve
spring
increases
line
pressure
to
115
psi,
in
the
for-
ward
range,
and
250
to
300
psi in
reverse.
These
springs
are
not
interchangeable
in
other
trans-
missions.
The
outside
diameter
of
the
clutch
retainer
has
been
increased
to
6%
inches
(formerly
6
inches).
On
models
C-72, C-73,
and
C-72-300
the
length
of
the
retainer
has
been
increased
to
ac-
commodate
the
additional
disc
and
plate.
The
shortened
bronze
bushing
eliminates
indexing
of
the
fluid
slots
between
retainer
and
bushing.
The
clutch
discs
now
have
12
lugs.
The
clutch
plates
still
retain
the
usual
eight
lugs.
The
plates
are
interchangeable
with
earlier
models
while
the
discs
are
not.
To
accommodate
the
12
lugged
discs,
the
number
of
splines
on
the
clutch
hub
has
been
increased
accordingly.
