Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto theStateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)
wireto its terminalfirst,followedby the NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromthe terminalsat thefactory.Toconnect
thebatterycables,proceedasfollows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).The negative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(i).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcableto the positivebatteryterminal
(+)withthebolt andhexnut.See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminaland attachtheblackcabletothenegativebattery
terminal(-) withthebolt andhex nut.SeeFigure1.

NOTE:If thebatteryis putinto serviceafterthe dateshownon topof
battery,chargethe batteryas instructedinthe Service& Maintenance

Shipping Brace Removal
Makesurethe ridingmower'sengineisoff,removetheignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingtheshippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionfor instructionsonhowto setthe parking
lbrake.
• Locatethe shippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarning
tagfoundonthe rightsideof the mower,betweenthedischarge
chutedeflectorandthe cuttingdeck.SeeFig.2.

Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedforpackagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyourridingmower.
Themowingdeck iscapableofthrowingobjects.Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthe dischargecoverin the properoperating
Ipositioncouldresultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthesteeringwheelfor yourtractordid notcomeattached,the
hardwareforattachingit hasbeenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththesteeringwheelcap.Carefullypry off thesteeringwheel
capandremovethe hardware.
1. Withthe wheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthesteeringshaft.
2. Placethewasher(withthecuppedsidedown)overthe steering
wheeland securewiththe hexbolt.SeeFig.3.
