Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedfor safeoperationof thetrac-
tor.Ifthis systemshouldevermalfunction,do not operatethetractor.
Immediatelycontact1-800-4-MY-HOMEto havethe systemserviced.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventsthe enginefromstarting
unlesstheparkingbrakeisengagedandthePTO(BladeEngage)
leveris in thedisengaged(OFF)position.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoffthe engineif
theoperatorleavesthe seatbeforeengagingthe parkingbrake.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutofftheengine
ifthe operatorleavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)leverengaged,regardlessofwhetherthe parkingbrake
isengaged.
IGNITION SWITCH
Theignitionswitchisactivatedto starttheengine,insertkeyintothe
ignitionswitchandturnclockwisetothe STARTposition.Releasethe
keyintothe ON positiononceenginehas fired.
Tostopthe engine,turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwisetothe OFF
position.

Start
off
Neverleavea runningmachineunattended.AlwaysdisengagePTO,
moveshiftleverintoneutralposition,setparkingbrake,stopengine
andremovekeyto preventunintendedstarting.
ENGAGING THE PARKING BRAKE
To engage the parking brake:
1. Fullydepressthebrakepedalandholdit downwithyour foot.
2. Movethespeedcontrolleverallthewaydownandintothe
parkingbrakeposition.
3. Releasethebrakepedalto allow theparkingbraketoengage.
To release the parking brake:
1. Depressthebrakepedalandmovethe speedcontrolleveroutof
theparkingbrakepositionandintoa desiredspeed.
SETTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT
1. Selecttheheightpositionof the cuttingdeckby placingthe deck
liftleverinanyofthe differentcuttingheightnotcheson the right
sideof thefender.
2. Adjustthe deck wheelssothattheyarebetween1A-inchand
Y2-inchabovethe groundwhenthetractorisona smooth,fiat
surfacesuchas a driveway.
To adjust Deck Wheels:
1. Removetheflangelocknuton the shoulderbolt securingthe
deckwheel.
2. Positionthe wheelto thedesiredheightas listedabove.SeeFig.

3. Securetheshoulderboltwiththe flangelocknut.
Keephandsandfeetawayfromthe dischargeopeningofthe cutting
deck.
NOTE:Thedeckwheelsarean anti-scalpfeatureof the deckand
are notdesignedto supporttheweightof thecuttingdeck.Referto
LevelingintheMaintenance& Servicesectionof thismanualformore
detailedinstructionsregardingvariousdeckadjustments.

Donot operatethetractorifthe interlocksystemis malfunctioning.

NOTE:Referto theGasolineandOilfill-up instructionsearlierin this
section.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)leverin thedisengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolby movingthethrottle/chokeleverall
thewayupintothechokeposition.
