Neverstorelawntractorwithfuel intankindoorsorin poorly
ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
orpilotlightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
IMPORTANT:Fuelleftin thefueltankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwill causeseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,thefuelsystemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,orthe gasolinemustbe treatedwitha
stabilizertopreventdeterioration.
1. Ifusingafuel stabilizer:
a. Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecom-
mendations.
b. Addto clean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountofstabilizer
forthe capacityofthe fuelsystem.
c. Fillthe fueltankwithtreatedfuel andruntheenginefor 2-3
minutestoget stabilizedfuelintothecarburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthe fuelsystem:
a. Donot drainfuel whentheengineishot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimeto cool.Drainfuelintoanapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainanylargevolumeoffuel fromthetank bydisconnect-
ing thefuel linefromthein-linefuel filterneartheengine.
Seethe completeinstructionsfor DrainingTheFuellaterin
this section.
Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcan beexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringthe equipmentforextended
periods.Drainfuelonly intoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,away
froman openflame.Allowenginetocool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesofignitionpriorto drainingfuel.
Storegasolineinan approvedcontainerinsafelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuel lineandrunthe engineuntilit startsto
falter,thenusethechoketo keeptheenginerunninguntilall
fuelin thecarburetorhas beenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuel lineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthesystem.
DRAiNiNG THE FUEL
1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichis locatedonthe leftsideof the
engine,andmaybe attachedto theenginewitha tie strap.
2. Cutthetiestrap,ifpresent,then pinchthein-lineclamponthe
fuelfilterwitha pairof pliers,slidethe clampupthefuel line.
3. Pullthefuellinefreefromthe filterandplacetheopenendof the
lineintoanapprovedcontainerto drainthe fuel.
PREPARING THE LAWN TRACTOR
1. Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyas describedinthe lubrica-
tioninstructions.
2. Donot usea pressurewasheror gardenhosetocleanyourunit.
3. Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea.Do notstorenextto corrosive
materials,suchas fertilizer.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeofgasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocalauthoritiesforapproveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceofengineoil
throughthe sparkplugholeintothecylinder.Cranktheengine
severaltimesto distributetheoil. Replacethesparkplug.
