debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
• Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeofanycombustibledebris.
• Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine.
• Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducethe riskof overheat-
ingandignitionofaccumulateddebris.
Donotusewatertocleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushordry cloth.
Carburetor Adjustment
• Thecarburetoron thisengineis notadjustable.
LUBRICATION
Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO
(BladeEngageLever),moveshift leverintoneutralposition,set
parkingbrake,stopengineand removekeytopreventunintended
starting.
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricateall thepivotpointson thedrivesystem,parkingbrakeand lift
linkageat leastoncea seasonwithlightoil.
Rear Wheels
Battery
Thebatteryissealedandis maintenance-free.Acidlevelscannotbe
checked.
• Alwayskeepthebatterycablesandterminalscleanandfree of
corrosivebuild-up.
• Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,applya lightcoatof
petroleumjellyorgreasetobothterminals.
• Alwayskeepthe rubberbootpositionedoverthe positiveterminal
to preventshorting.
IMPORTANT: if removingthebatteryfor any reason,disconnectthe
NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedbythe POSI-
TIVE(Red)wire.Whenre-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe
POSITIVE(Red)wiretoits terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthatthe wiresareconnectedto the correct
terminals;reversingthemcouldchangethepolarityandresultin
damageto yourengine'salternatingsystem.
Cleaning Battery
Cleanthebatterybyremovingitfromthe tractorandwashingwith
a bakingsodaandwatersolution.Ifnecessary,scrapethe battery
terminalswitha wirebrushto removedeposits.Coatterminalsand
exposedwiringwithgreaseor petroleumjelly topreventcorrosion.
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:
• incorrectinitialactivation
• Overcharging
• Freezing
• Undercharging
• Corrodedconnections
Thesefailuresare NOTcoveredbyyourtractor'swarranty.
CLEANING THE ENGINE AND DECK
Anyfuelor oil spilledon the machineshouldbewipedoff promptly.Do
NOTallowdebristoaccumulatearoundthe coolingfinsof theengine
or onanyotherpartof the machine.
IMPORTANT: Theuseofa pressurewashertocleanyourtractoris
NOTrecommended.Itmaycausedamageto electricalcomponents,
spindles,pulleys,bearingsor theengine.
Deck Wash System
Yourtractor'sdeckis equippedwitha waterporton itssurfaceaspart
of itsdeckwashsystem.
Usethedeckwashto rinsegrassclippingsfromthedeck'sunderside
and preventthebuildupof corrosivechemicals.Completethe following
stepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Drivethetractorto a level,clearspoton yourlawn,nearenough
foryourgardenhosetoreach.
Therearwheelsshouldbe removedfromthe axlesoncea season.
Lubricatetheaxlesandthe rimswell withanall-purposegreasebefore
re-installingthem.
Front Axles
Eachendofthetractor'sfrontpivotbarmaybeequippedwithagrease
fitting.Lubricatewithagreasegunafterevery25hoursoftractoroperation.
Makecertainthe tractor'sdischargechuteis directedAWAYfromyoul
house,garage,parkedcars,etc.
2. Disengagethe PTO(BladeEngage),setthe parkingbrakeand
stoptheengine.
