Gasolineand itsvaporsareextremelyflammableandexplosive.Fire
orexplosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
• Keepgasolineawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,
andotherignitionsources.
• Checkfuel lines,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracksor
leaks.Replaceif necessary.
• Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthe fueltankas perthe
instructionsbelow.
• Do notdrainfuel whenthe engineishot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimetocool. Drainfuel intoan approvedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
• Drainanylargevolumeoffuelfromthe tankby disconnectingthe
fuellinefromthe in-linefuelfilterneartheengine.
• Removethe fuellinefromthe In-lineside(sidetowardsthefuel
tank)of thefuel filter.
• Replacementpartsmustbethe sameand installedin the same
positionastheoriginalparts.
• Iffuel spills,waituntil itevaporatesbeforestartingengine.
• Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthe fueltank. Otherwisefuel
canleakoutandcausea fireor explosion.
ToDrainthe fuel:
1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichisroutedontheleftsideofthe engine
betweenthefueltankandthe carburetor,andmaybeattachedto
theenginewitha tie strap.Cutthetie strap,ifpresent,thenpinch
thein-lineclamponthefuelfilterwitha pairof pliers,slidethe
clampupthefuelline.Pullthefuellinefreefromthefilterandplace
theopenendof thelineintoanapprovedcontainerto drainthefuel.
Tochangethe fuel filter:
1. Useplierstosqueezethetabsonthe otherclamp(theout-line
sideof thefuel filter),thenslidethe clampawayfromthe fuelfilter.
Twistandpullthe fuellineoff of thefuelfilter.SeeFigure11.

3. Replacethefuelfilterwithan originalequipmentreplacement
filter.Call1-800-4-MY-HOME®to purchasethe originalequip-
mentreplacementfilter.
4. Securethefuel lineswiththe clamps.
Iffilters,or coversare notinstalledcorrectlyseriousinjuryordeath
couldresultfrombackfire.Do notattemptto startthe enginewith
themremoved.
Donot usepressurizedair or solventstocleantheaircleaner
cartridge.
Theairfiltersystemusesa cylindricalcartridge.

filteroff theintake(D).
3. Toloosendebris,gentlytapthe filteron a hardsurface,ifthefilter
isexcessivelydirty,replacewitha newfilter.

baseas shown.Makesurefilterfits securelyin thebase.
5. installairfiltercoverandsecurewithfasteners.
Spark Plug
1. Cleanareaaroundthe sparkplugbase.Donotsandblastspark
plug.Sparkplugshouldbecleanedby scrapingor wirebrushing
andwashingwitha commercialsolvent
2. Removeandinspectthesparkplug.Checkgapto makesureitis
setat .030".SeeFigure13.
3. Replacethe sparkplug(Champion®RC12YC)oncea season.
