●The service life of drive chain is
dependent upon proper lubrication and
adjustment. Poor maintenance can cause
premature wear or damage to the drive
chain and sprocket.
●The drive chain should be checked and
lubricated as part of the Pre-ride
Inspection.
●Under severe usage, or when the
motorcycle is ridden in unusually dusty
or muddy areas, more frequent
maintenance will be necessary.
<INSPECTION>
1. Turn the engine off, put vehicle in
upright position on the main stand and
shift the transmission into neutral.
2. Remove the chain tensioner.
3. Move the position of chain tensioner
roller up and down with hands to check
if the chain free play is within
recommended range.
OPTIMA FREE PLAY : 50~60 mm
4. Rotate the rear wheel slowly and inspect
the drive chain and sprockets for any of
the follwing conditions :

① Damged rollers
② Loose Pins
③ Dry or Rusted Link
④ Kinked or Binding Link
⑤ Excessive Wear
⑥ Improper Adjustment
⑦ Missing O-ring
■
SPROCKETS
⑧ Excessively Worn Teeth
⑨ Broken or Damaged Teeth
●A drive chain with damaged rollers,
loose pins or missing O-ring must be
replaced.
●A chain which appears dry or shows
sings of rust, requires supplementary
lubrication.
