Configure a LAN for IPv6
The router supports IPv6 addressing on Ethernet interfaces eth0, eth1, eth2, and eth3 only. The
default for IPv6 support on these interfaces is disabled.
ÉWeb
1. Go to Configuration - Network - Interfaces - IPv6 >IPv6 LAN.
2. Enable IPv6 for the Ethernet interface: In the list of Ethernet interfaces, select the interface
instance, the IPv6 LAN instance, and click Add.
3. Click IPv6 LAN. Select the IPv6 LANinstance associated with the Ethernet interface and set
parameters for the instance:
4. Select the operating mode for the LAN interface in the Mode field.
n SLAAC: The device sends Router Advertisement (RA) messages. In these messages, the
managed and other config flags are both clear. Prefix options will have the
autonomous config flag set.
n DHCPv6: Enables the DHCPv6 server. The DHCPv6 server assigns addresses from any
prefixes the LAN interface has assigned to it to DHCPv6 clients on downstream hosts.
RA messages will have the managed and other config flags set. Prefix options will have
the autonomous config flag clear.
n SLAAC + DHCPv6: Both the RA server and the DHCPv6 server are enabled. RA
messages will have the managed flag clear. The other config flag will be set. Prefix
options will have the autonomous config flag set.
5. (Optional) Enter the subnet ID in the Subnet ID field, This value is appended to delegated
prefixes and then assigned to the LAN interface. The default is the IPv6 LAN instance number.
6. (Optional) Enter the length of the subnet ID in the Subnet IDLength field: This length is added
to delegated prefixes when creating the subnetted prefix. The default is 8.
7. Click DHCPv6 Server. Enter the preference value that the DHCPv6 server will advertise.
8. Click Router Advertisements and configure parameters for the Routing Advertisements (RA)
server.
n Enable router advertisements on this interface: Enables or disables the RA server.
n Maximum Router Advertisements Interval: The maximum interval, in seconds,
between RA messages.
n Minimum Router Advertisements Interval: The minimum interval (in seconds)
between RA messages. Note that the minimum interval is further limited to 3/4 of the
maximum interval.
n Include link MTU: When enabled, RA messages include the link MTU option . The MTU
value is set to the MTU of the configured interface .
n Reachable Time: The advertised "reachable" time, in milliseconds, in RA messages.
n Retransmission Timer: The advertised "retransmit" time, in milliseconds, in RA
messages.
n Hop Limit: The advertised hop limit in RA messages.
n Default Lifetime: The advertised default lifetime, in seconds, in RA messages.
