Water Heater Service Procedures
WARNING: ELECTRICAL GROUNDING
HAZARD.
When an appliance is equipped with a three-
prong (grounding) plug for your protection against
shock hazards, it should be plugged directly into
a properly grounded three-prong receptacle. Do
not cut or remove the grounding prong from this
plug. Failure to obey this warning could result in
death or serious injury.
CAUTION: SCALDING HAZARD.
Turn off the Water Heater before opening the P/T
relief valve to establish air space. Storage water
must be cool. Failure to obey this caution could
result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE: Do not operate without water in tank. Product
failure can occur.
NOTICE: Do not route wires around sharp objects or
where they could be smashed. Damage to the wires can
occur.
NOTICE: Do not li, push, or misalign the main burner
tube. Damage to the burner and the Water Heater can
occur.
Remember to check the basics before replacing
any parts, such as contributing issues. Refer to the
“Installation Issues” on page 29 and “Maintenance
on page 48 for more detail.

1. Rotate the handle on the outside of the Water Heater
access door to align with the slot in the door.

Some models may only require you to grab the
handle.
2. Pull the door open.
3. Gently lower the door until the components are
visible and easily accessed.
