Electrical hazards
Installation, servicing and repair work should be entrusted to Markem-Imaje-qualified people
or to electrical technicians following consultation with the Markem-Imaje after-sales dept. or
an authorized dealer.
Disconnect the equipment from the mains power supply before carrying out
any work which requires the removal or replacement of a part.
Never take off the laser covers. Removal of these covers exposes high voltage. Removal
of inner covers from the laser unit or from the optical assembly could allow the laser beam
to escape.
The area around the laser system must be kept dry.
The area around the laser system must remain well lit to allow people to work on the laser
equipment safely.
Never operate the laser if there is any indication that water is leaking from the system. Call
the nearest service centre.
Do not use the laser if the mains power supply cable is damaged or frayed.
The laser must be serviced and inspected at regular intervals in accordance with
MARKEM-IMAJE's recommendations.
Safety instructions
Markem-Imaje laser units incorporate various safety functions. It is necessary for the end
user to have access to these functions within a complete system installation to meet safety
standards. These functions are listed below:
■ Safety interlocks
Special tools must be used to open the internal parts of the laser's protective casing easily.
There are no parts inside the protective casing of the CO2 laser which can be operated by
the user, and there is no access panel with safety interlocks.
■ Remote interlocks
The system has two remote interlock systems. These systems consist of two separate
circuits which are used for locking and switching actions for a remote emergency shut-
down.
■ Warning light to indicate emission of laser radiation
This indicator light can be used to indicate possible emission of laser radiation for safety
purposes. The laser emission light is red and is located on the control panel at the bottom
of the laser.
A message is displayed on the control panel LCD screen if the indicator light fails when the
system is in use.
