1.2 Applications
CXS/EH Pump combination systems are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. Edwards has a dedicated
team of applications engineers who can help you determine the best CXS/EH Pump combination system for your
application.
If you use the system on an application for which it is not suitable, you may invalidate your warranties. If in doubt,
contact Edwards.
1.2.1 Normal operation
Normal operation is defined by this instruction manual. The CXS/EH Pump combination system is safe to handle IIB3
gases internally and for use in external gas group IIB. Refer to the system rating label mounted on the system
framework or the system documentation for the specific rating applicable to the system.
1.2.2 Abnormal operation
 Use of the CXS/EH Pump combination system as a positive pressure compressor.
 Use of the CXS/EH Pump combination system in excess of the operational limits specified in Section 1.6.
 Reverse rotation of the CXS/EH Pump combination system.
 Pumping hydrocarbon oxides.
 Pumping gases that tend to self-decompose, or that are chemically unstable.
 Use of the CXS/EH Pump combination system with materials which have auto-ignition temperatures below
the defined temperature rating.
 Operation such that process deposits can build up inside the pump combination system. This could lead to
loss of constructional safety and an ignition hazard.
 Operation such that the pump combination system inlet temperature falls below the dew point of a
flammable vapour being pumped. This could lead to condensate that can collect and lead to the risk of
corrosion or an ignition hazard.
 Pumping of, or use of the CXS/EH Pump combination system in the presence of, explosive dust atmospheres.
