1 ABOUT YOUR TESTER
The Elcometer 1535 Multi Function Scratch Tester is designed to perform, with
high reproducibility, a large number of standardised scratches on flat
specimens. Scratched specimens produced by the tester are commonly used
for studying and predicting the adhesion and corrosion resistance
characteristics of coatings.
Specimens are fixed on a table; ferrous specimens are fixed by magnetism,
non-ferrous specimens may be fixed by an optional vacuum system. The table
is moved through an adjustable distance by the action of a pneumatically
operated piston and may be aligned in the horizontal plane at angles of -90°,
-45°, -30°, 0°, 30°, 45° and 90° to the direction of travel.
By positioning the specimen, the angle of rotation of the table in the horizontal
plane and its displacement, parallel or crossed scratches of different
dimensions can be created.
The scratching tool is pressed onto the specimen by the action of a
pneumatically operated piston. The force exerted by the tool on the specimen
can be adjusted by the user. A wide range of scratching tools is available to
meet the requirements of various test standards.
