2.3 Caution
Do not operate the machine with loose items of clothing.
The Elcometer 1535 Multi Function Scratch Tester has been manufactured with
your safety in mind. However, improper use can result in damage to the
machine.
Please observe the precautions discussed in these operating instructions.
Two buttons for adjusting the flow rate of the compressed air are
located at the back of your tester. The buttons regulate the speed of
displacement of the pneumatic cylinders.
These buttons are factory adjusted. DO NOT MODIFY THEIR
SETTINGS.
Take care to avoid damaging the surface of the table. Damage to the
surface may affect the flatness of the table which will have an
adverse affect upon the quality of the scratches.
3 SCRATCHING TOOLS
3.1 Selecting a scratching tool
Choice of scratching tool will normally be governed by the recommendations of
the test standard for which you are producing specimens.
There are no specific rules to obtain good scratches. It may be necessary to
conduct several tests with different tools at different pressures. In some cases,
two or three passes will be required to remove the coating completely. It is
always advisable to start at low tool pressure and gradually increase pressure
until good results are obtained.
If you are unable to obtain satisfactory results, please contact Elcometer or your
local supplier for technical advice.
