2.12 Performing transmitter tests
2.12.1 Verifying alarm level
If the transmitter is repaired or replaced, verify the transmitter alarm level before returning the
transmitter to service. This is useful in testing the reaction of the control system to a transmitter in an
alarm state. Thus ensuring the control system recognizes the alarm when activated. To verify the
transmitter alarm values, perform a loop test and set the transmitter output to the alarm value (see
Tab le 2 -4 , 2-5, and 2-6 on page 18.
Note
Before returning transmitter to service, verify security switch is set to the correct position. Refer to
“Verify configuration” on page 11.
2.12.2 Performing an analog loop test
The analog loop test command verifies the output of the transmitter, the integrity of the loop, and the
operations of any recorders or similar devices installed in the loop. It is recommended that the 4–20 mA
points in addition to alarm levels when installing, repairing, or replacing a transmitter.
The host system may provide a current measurement for the 4–20 mA HART output. If not, connect a
reference meter to the transmitter by either connecting the meter to the test terminals on the terminal
block, or shunting transmitter power through the meter at some point in the loop.
