Filter Element Replacement (Dual Oil Filter
Assembly)
WARNING
When working with refrigerants, ensure there is
adequate ventilation and refrigerant vapor detectors
as per ASHRAE standards. Failure to comply may
result in serious injury or death.
WARNING
Avoid skin contact with oil. Wear rubber gloves and a
face shield when working with oil. Failure to comply
may result in serious injury or death.
Change the oil lter as outlined in the Maintenance and
Service Interval, see Table 5-1. Maintenance & Service
Interval.
NOTE
Ensure to check the oil pressure drop and record it
daily.
This procedure is for a compressor unit equipped with a
dual oil lter assembly only. One oil lter can be isolated
and serviced one at a time during operation. Note that
there is one oil lter head assembly for each oil lter. This
is different from duplex oil lters, where there is only one
oil lter head assembly for both oil lters.
See Table 5-3 for the parts required for an oil lter re-
placement, with their part numbers.
To replace an oil lter element, continue with the follow-
ing steps:
NOTE
For lter housings with drain plugs only, replace
with O-ring (VPN 3111AB) after removing drain
plug. Drain plug and O-ring are not shown in this
procedure.
Installation
8. Before reassembling, clean all parts
thoroughly.
9. Install new lter element on internal port of
head assembly. Make sure lter element is
fully seated.
10. Lightly lubricate new O-ring with clean sys-
tem oil.
11. Install O-ring and replace the oil lter hous-
ing (canister) on oil lter Duplex head
Assembly. Hand-tighten only the oil lter
housing cover.
12. Using dry nitrogen gas, pressurize lter hous-
ing through bleed valve and check for leaks.
13. Evacuate lter housing to 29.88” Hg (1000
microns) and close bleed valve.
14. Install plug on bleed valve.
15. Pull switch lever and slowly rotate lever to
middle position to allow oil to ll lter hous-
ing. Allow a minimum of 5 seconds to ll
housing, then rotate lever back to second
lter.
16. Repeat for second oil lter, as required.
