1.4 Indications for Use
As an NMES device, the 300 PV device is indicated for the following conditions:
Retarding or preventing disuse atrophy
Maintaining or increasing range of motion
Re-educating muscles
Relaxation of muscle spasm
Increasing local blood circulation
Prevention of venous thrombosis of the calf muscles immediately after
surgery
As a TENS device, the 300 PV is indicated for the following conditions:
Symptomatic relief and management of chronic, intractable pain
Adjunctive treatment for post-surgical and post-trauma acute pain
As a FES device, the 300 PV is indicated for the following conditions:
Stimulation of the leg and ankle muscles of partially paralyzed patients to
provide flexion of the foot, thus improving the patient’s gait
1.5 Contraindications
300 PV should not be used for the following situations or patients with:
Demand type implanted pacemaker or defibrillator
Any transcerebral electrode placement
• Any electrode placement that applies current to the carotid sinus region
Specific to use of 300 PV as a TENS device:
Whenever pain syndromes are undiagnosed, until etiology is established
Specific to the use of 300 PV as a FES device:
Assisting paraplegic patients into the standing position
