Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting the shredder begins with checking the machine for possible
faults. Possible causes for machine malfunctions include:
Paper feed problems
Electrical problems
Mechanical problems
Paper Feed Problems
Paper jams and a full wastebasket are two common problems. Indicator LEDs
on the shredder cover help to identify these problems. Both of these are easy to
solve. In addition, birdnesting, a build up of paper shreds along the underside of
the cutting assembly, can be a problem on confetti-cut shredders.
CAUTION!
Never attempt to force jammed material through the shredder.
If the paper jam light is on, follow these steps until the light turns off:
1 Unplug the shredder.
2 Check the wastebasket and empty if full. Replace the basket and
make sure the door ajar switch is fully engaged.
3 Plug in the shredder. Press and hold the reverse (R) switch to back
paper out of the paper entry slot. Try pulling gently on the paper to
remove it from the shredder.
4 Alternate between forward and reverse, as needed:
a Press and hold the Manual Forward button for a few seconds.
b Press and hold the Reverse switch for a few seconds.
c Continue alternating between forward and reverse until the jam
clears.
CAUTION!
The shredder may be damaged if you alternate too rapidly
between forward and reverse.
