Handling op tical disks
Handling
Observe the following g uidelines when handling optical disks:
• Avoid touching the surface of a data carrier. Only handle data carriers by th eir edges.
• Always s tore data carriers in their cases. This will protect the data carrier against
being covered in dust, scratch ed or damaged in any other way.
• Protect your data carriers against dust, mechanical vibrations and direct sunlight.
• Avoid storing a dat a carrier in areas subject to high temperatures or hu midity.
You may use both 3-in. / 8-cm and 4.7-in. / 12-cm disks in the optical driv e.
When using an o ptical disk of lesser quality, vibrations and reading erro rs may occur.
CD/DVD indicator
CD/DVDindicato
r
The CD/DVD indicator flashes when an optical disk is inserted. The indicator goes out when
the drive is ready for reading. The indicator lights up when the drive is being accessed.
You may only remove the optical disk when the indicator is unlit.
If the C D /DVD indicator does not go out after a data carrier has been inserted, but
instead continues to flash, this mean s that the drive cannot acce ss the data carrier.
Either the data carrier is damaged or dirty or you are using a data
carrier that the drive cannot read .
