6 Processors
V CAUTION!
Observe the safety instructions in the chapter ā€œSafety notesā€ on page 15.
V CAUTION!
Processors are modules which can react extremely sensitively to electro-
static discharges and which must therefore always be handled with care.
After a processor has been removed from its protective sleeve or from its
socket, place it with its smooth side down on a non-conducting, antistatic
surface. Never push a processor over a surface.
6.1 Installing a second processor
The system board can be upgraded with a second processor. The upgrade kit
consists of a processor, and a heat sink.
V CAUTION!
Only processors of the same type may be used on the system board. The
second processor must have the same clock frequency and the same
cache as the first processor. For dual operation, use a suitable multipro-
cessor operating system.
Ê Open the server as described in the ā€œRemoving the air ductā€ on page 22.
Ê Remove the air duct over the main memory (see chapter ā€œPreparationā€ on
page 22).
