Laser beam
unstable and
spot size
changing
Refraction can be the reason for:
• an unstable laser beam on the target.
• changes in the laser spot size.
Air turbulence in the pipe cause refraction. The effect occurs particularly, when
a wet or cold pipe is heated up quickly through the sunlight. The rising air
deflects the laser beam and causes a flicker.
Ventilate the pipe or place laser and target temporarily on top of the
pipe. When the pipe is dry or heated up to the ambient level, the laser
spot is stable again.
