Total Cholesterol Tests
Your meter provides you with one measuring mode: General.
● Insert a test strip to turn on the meter. The screen will display
“
”, a flashing “ ” and “CHOL”.
● After obtaining the first drop of blood, wipe it off. Squeeze again to
obtain another drop of whole blood sample for the test.
Reference Values
The total cholesterol readings deliver plasma equivalent results
displayed in millimoles of total cholesterol per liter of blood (mmol/L).
Total Cholesterol (mmol/L)*
Desirable < 5.1 mmol/L
Borderline High 5.1 - 6.1 mmol/L
High ≥ 6.2 mmol/L
Your healthcare professional can discuss values that are specifically
appropriate for you. At least two measurements of cholesterol on
separate occasions should be made before a medical decision is
made since a single reading may not be representative of your usual
cholesterol concentration. An elevated cholesterol level is only one
risk factor for heart disease. There are many other risk factors. A
cholesterol result less than 5.1 mmol/L is desirable.
