5. Turn the tie rod until the ball joint aligns
with the transaxle control lever, then
reconnect the steering linkage to the
transaxle control lever. See Figure 35.
6. Check wheel hubs for rotation.
• If there is only slight rotation, tighten the
jam nuts against tie rods, stop the
engine, reinstall wheels and lower unit
to the ground.
• If there is excessive rotation, adjust
neutral position as directed below.
Adjust Neutral Position
If wheel hub has excessive rotation after
setting neutral position, adjust neutral
position.
1. Loosen jam nut above the tie rod on
steering linkage end, and then disconnect
the steering linkage from the transaxle
control lever. See Figure 33.
2. Loosen the return-to-neutral screw on the
transaxle. See Figure 36.
3. Slowly turn transaxle control arm in the
opposite direction of hub movement until
hub stops. See Figure 37.
4. Hold the transaxle control arm in position
and tighten the return-to-neutral screw.
5. Reconnect steering linkage to transaxle
control lever with original hardware and
tighten jam nut against the tie rod.
6. Start engine, move throttle lever to fast
position and release parking brake.
7. Move steering levers forward and
backward 5 or 6 times and then return
levers to neutral position.
