servicing another appliance.
B. Avoiding Smoke and Odors
Negative Pressure, Shut-down, and Power
Failure:
To reduce the probability of back-drafting or burn-
back in the pellet burning appliance during power
failure or shut-down conditions, the stove must
be able to draft naturally without exhaust blower
operation.Negativepressureinthehousewillresistthis
naturaldraftifnotaccountedforinthepelletappliance
installation.
Heatrisesinthehouseandleaksoutatupperlevels.
Thisairmustbereplacedwithcoldairfromoutdoors,
whichowsintolowerlevelsofthehouse.Ventsand
chimneysintobasementsandlowerlevelsofthehouse
can become the conduit for air supply, and reverse
undertheseconditions.
Outside Air:
Hearth & Home Technologies recommend attaching
outside air in all installations, especially lower level
and main oor locations.
Pernationalbuildingcodes,considerationmustbegiven
tocombustionairsupplytoallcombustionappliances.
Failure to supply adequate combustion air for all
appliancedemands,mayleadtoback-draftingofthose
andotherappliances.
Whentheapplianceisside-wallvented:Theairintake
isbestlocatedonthesameexteriorwallastheexhaust
vent outlet and located lower on the wall than the
exhaustventoutlet.
When theappliance is roof vented:The air intakeis
bestlocatedontheexteriorwallorientedtowardsthe
prevailingwinddirectionduringtheheatingseason.
Theoutsideairconnectionwillsupplythedemandsof
thepelletappliance,butconsiderationmustbegivento
thetotalhousedemand.Housedemandmayconsume
someairneededforthestove,especiallyduringapower
failure.Itmaybenecessarytoaddadditionalventilation
tothespaceinwhichthepelletapplianceislocated.
ConsultwithyourlocalHVACprofessionaltodetermine
theventilationdemandsforyourhouse.
Theoutsideairkitconsistsofauestubpipe,berglass
gasket,siliconegasket,intakeboxandasectionofex
pipe.

Vent Congurations:
Toreduceprobabilityofreversedraftingduringshut-
downconditions,Hearth&HomeTechnologiesstrongly
recommends:
• Installingthepelletventwithaminimumverticalrun
ofvefeet,preferablyterminatingabovetheroofline.
• Installingtheoutsideairintakeatleastfourfeetbelow
theventtermination.
Topreventsootdamagetoexteriorwallsofthehouse
andtopreventre-entryofsootorashintothehouse:
• Maintain specied clearances to windows, doors,
andairinlets,includingairconditioners.
• Ventsshouldnotbeplacedbelowventilatedsofts.
Runtheventabovetheroof.
• Avoidventingintoalcovelocations.
• Ventsshouldnotterminateunderoverhangs,decks
orontocoveredporches.
• Maintain minimum clearance of 12 inches from
theventterminationtotheexteriorwall.Ifyousee
deposits developing on the wall, you may need
to extend this distance to accommodate your
installationconditions.
