C. General Maintenance Procedures
1. Burn Pot Grate Cleaning
• Frequency:DailytoWeekly*
• By:User
Wear Leather Gloves To Prevent Skin Burns!
Thisprocedurecanbedonewithareburning. Itis
recommendedthatyouturnthetemperaturedialdown
approximately one half hour before to allow some
coolingofthere.
Open the front door by lifting upward on the latch
handle,thenswingthedooropen.Usingthescraper
toolprovidedwithyourappliance,scrapeanycoolor
spentashesfrominfrontofthereoffthefrontof
thegratetotheashpan.Next,scrapedownward
into the burn pot, under the burning fuel
to remove any carbon deposits. Pay
particular attention to the corners on
each side of the auger, as this is
generally the rst place to see
accumulation. You do not
want to scrape the re out
ofthepot,youjustwantto
clean the holed surface
underneath the re. Any
loosenedmaterialwillbe
pushed off of the grate
into the ash pan as
burningresumes.Close
thedoorwhennished,
andreturnyourtemperaturedialtothedesiredsetting.
* Depending on fuel quality and the quantity of fuel
consumed,theintervalbetweenscrapingwillvary.If
youseeorangeandlazyames,itisagoodindicator
oftheneedforscraping.
2. Ash Removal From Firebox
• Frequency: Weekly / depending on fuel and/or
ashbuildup.
• By:User

ThereMUSTbeoutandcoolforsafeashremoval.
The scraper tool can be used to knock any ash
accumulationintotheashpan.
Frequent cleaning of ash from the rebox will help
to slow the accumulation of ash in the exhaust and
ventingsystem.
3. Emptying the Ash Pan
• Frequency:Bi-Weekly/asneeded
• By:User

ThereMUSTbeoutandcoolforsafeashremoval.
a.Removetheashpancoverbygraspingtheashlip
andslideforward.
b.Openthelowerspringlatchoneachsidetorelease
theashpan.
c. Slide the ash
panstraightout.
d. Empty into a
non-combustible
container and
slidetheashpan
straight into the
stove.
e.Securetheash
pan by hooking
and closing the
springlatches.
4. Disposal of Ashes
• Frequency:Asneeded
• By:User
Ashes must be placed in a metal container with
a tight tting lid. The closed container of ashes
should be placed on a non-combustible oor or
on the ground, well away from all combustible
materials, pending nal disposal. If the ashes are
disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locally
dispersed, they should be retained in the closed
container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
Do not use the ash container for other debris or
yard waste.
