4 Design and function
The AED basic device extends the functionality of AD
amplifier boards and provides:
S mechanical protection (IP65)
S the voltage supply for the amplifier board and trans-
ducer excitation
S bridge excitation for transducers with a total bridge
resistance of 40 to 4000 
S a choice of RS-422, RS-485 and RS-232 serial inter-
faces
S an EMC-tested combination of basic device and
AD101B or AD103C amplifier boards
S Diagnostic bus
The amplifier board is a plug-in board, with two plug con-
nections for inserting into the carrier board of the basic
device. The basic device contains terminals for trans-
ducer, power supply and interface connection, slide
switches for interface selection and the voltage stabilizer.
The connection cables exit the housing via PG glands on
the side.
