Section 2: Installation Standards and Codes
The LCD-160 is designed to comply with the following standards:
NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code
Underwriters Laboratories:
• UL 864 Standard for Control Units and Accessories for Fire Alarm Systems
• UL 1076 Standard for Proprietary Burglar Alarm Units and Systems
• UL 2017 Standard for General-Purpose Signaling Devices and Systems
• UL 2572 Standard for Mass Notification Systems
Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC):
• ULC-S527-11: Standard of Control Units for Fire Alarm Systems
In addition, the installer should be familiar with the following standards:
• NEC Article 300 Wiring Methods
• NEC Article 760 Fire Protective Signaling Systems
• ULC-S524: Standard for the Installation of Fire Alarm Systems
• Applicable Local and State Building Codes
• Requirements of the Local Authority Having Jurisdiction
• The Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1
2.1 Related Documentation
To obtain a complete understanding of specific features of the LCD-160, or to become familiar with
functions in general, make use of the documentation listed in Table 2.1.
2.2 UL 9th Edition Compliance
This product has been certified to comply with the requirements in the Standard for Control Units
and Accessories for Fire Alarm Systems, UL 864 9th Edition.
The following products have not received UL 864 9th Edition certification and may only be used in
retrofit applications. Operation of the LCD-160 with products not tested for UL 864 9th Edition has
not been evaluated and may not comply with NFPA 72 and/or the latest edition of UL 864. These
applications will require the approval of the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
