Removal and replacement procedures 64
WARNING: The computer contains an internal lithium manganese dioxide, a vanadium
pentoxide, or an alkaline battery pack. A risk of fire and burns exists if the battery pack is not
properly handled. To reduce the risk of personal injury:
• Do not attempt to recharge the battery.
• Do not expose the battery to temperatures higher than 60°C (140°F).
• Do not disassemble, crush, puncture, short external contacts, or dispose of in fire or water.
• Replace only with the spare designated for this product.
To remove the component:
1. Power down the server (on page 27).
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3. Do one of the following:
o Extend the server from the rack (on page 28).
o Remove the server from the rack (on page 30).
4. Remove the access panel ("Access panel" on page 37).
5. If there is a secondary PCI riser cage installed and an expansion board is installed on it, remove the
secondary PCI riser cage ("Remove the PCI riser cages" on page 31).
6. Locate the battery on the system board ("System board components" on page 102).
7. If the system battery is secured by a metal tab, do the following:
a. Use your finger or a small flat-bladed, nonconductive tool to press the metal tab. This will partially
release the battery from the socket.
b. Remove the battery.
8. If the system battery is secured by a plastic outer lip, do the following:
a. Use a small flat-bladed, nonconductive tool to carefully lift the front of the battery from the socket.
