Electrostatic discharge information
ESD can damage static-sensitive devices or micro circuitry. Pr op er packaging and grounding
technique s are necessary p r ecautions to pr event damage. To pr event electrostatic damage, observe
the following precautions:
• Transport products in static-safe containers such as conductive tubes, bags, or boxes.
• Keep electrostatic-sensitive parts in their containers until they arrive at static-free statio ns.
• Cover worksta t ion s wit h approved static-dissipating material. Use a wrist strap connected to the
work surface and properly grounded (earthed) tools and equipment.
• Keep work area free of nonconductive materials, such as ordinary plastic assembly aids and
foam packing.
• Make sure that you are always properly grounded (earthed) when touching a static-sensitive
component or assembly.
• Avoid touching pin s, l ea d s, or circuitry.
• Always place dr iv es wit h t he Printed Circuit Board (P CB) assembly-side down.
• Use conducti ve field service tools.
Symbols on equipment
The following symbols may be placed on equipment to indicate the presence of potentially hazardous
conditions.
This symbol i ndicates the pr esence of hazard o us energy circuits or electric shock
hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from electric shock hazards, do not open this
enclosure. Refer all maintenance, upgrades, and servicing to qualified personnel.
This symbol i ndicates the pr esence of electric shock hazards. Th e area contains no
user or field serviceable parts. Do not open for any reason.
WARNING: To reduce the r isk of injury from el ectric shock hazards, do not open t his
enclosure.
This symbol on an RJ-45 receptacle indicates a network interface connection.
WARNING: To reduce the r isk of electric shock, fire, or damage to the equipment , do
not plug telephone or telecommunications connectors into this receptacle.
This symbol i ndicates the pr esence of a hot surfa ce or hot compone nt. If this surface is
contacted, the potential for injury exists.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to
cool before touch in g.
This symbol i ndicates that the component exc eeds the recommended weight for one
individual to handle safely.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment,
observe local occupational health and safety r equirements and guidelines for manual
material handling.
