POST Error Indicators
When POST detects a system failure, it displays a POST error mess age.
Recoverable POST Errors
Whenever a non-fatal error occurs during POST, an error message describing the problem appears
onscreen. Th ese error messages are displayed in normal video (white text on black background), and
show the details of the error. The following is an example of a POST error messag e:
Table 4-2 lists the most common P OST error messages with cor r esponding troubleshoot ing
recommendation. HP recommends that any errors be corrected, even if the server appears to boot
successfully.

again.

Hard disks SMART feature initialization failed.
005h PMM Allocate error PMM could not or did not allocate the requested amount
of memory for driver usage.
005h Refresh tim er test failed Refr esh retrace test fail.
005h DMA Controller Error HDD DMA controller error. Replace the HDD drive.
005h DMA-1 Error Error in the first DMA cont roller.
005h DMA-2 Error Error in the second DMA controller.
012h Timer Error The 8254 timer did n ot respond as expected. System
board replacement might be required.
012h CMOS Battery Low The CMOS b attery is discha r g ed. Replace the CMOS
battery.
501h Redundant Power Supply
#1 Unplugged
Redundant Power Supply #1 not detected. Check
Redundant Power Supply #1 and plug in.
502h Redundant Power Supply
#2 Unplugged
Redundant Power Supply #2 not detected. Check
Redundant Power Supply #2 and plug in.
