X.21 Switched Network Operating Procedures
For calling and associated operations with the
X.21
Switched Networks feature
installed, the keyboard attached to 3278s has uniquely defined
X.21
keys,
as
shown below.

The functions
of
the keys are
as
follows:

key (extension key) Pressing the
~
key causes the terminal to
go
into
the extension state. To activate the extension key,
the ALT key must
be
pressed and held down while
the extension key
is
pressed. The key enables the
COMM,
DIAL, DISC, DIRECT, LOAD MATRIX, or
LOCAL key. (Displays

in the Operator
Information Area.)

Pressing the
COMM
key causes the terminal to
go
into
the call-ready state. (Displays

Pressing the DIAL key causes the terminal to
go
into
the dial-in mode. (Displays

Pressing the
DIRECT key causes the terminal to
go
into the direct-call mode. (Displays -+-z...... in

Operator Information Area.)
Pressing the
DISC
key causes the terminal to discon-
nect from the network and stops communications
between the host system and the terminal. (Displays

while disconnection
is
in process and

when it
is
finished.)
When
the terminal
is
in
the call-ready state, pressing
the
LOCAL key causes it to
go
into the local mode.
In this mode, the terminal cannot call or be called.

Pressing the
LOAD
MATRIX key loads the printer
authorization matrix.
Note: The preceding keys will
not
work
in
machine-check, security-key
conditions.
