Operating Procedure
The
X.21
Switched Network operating procedures for display stations
are
described below. Details unique to your location, however,
are
not described.
For example, operator identification codes, call-progress-signal codes, or
operating instructions for attached non-IBM equipment
are
provided
by
the
appropriate person
in
your organization.
Sending a
Message
to the Host System with the X.21 Switched Network
Capability
1.
The Ready symbol (iii or
II
) should
be
displayed at the left
of
the
Operator Information Area, indicating that the terminal
is
ready.
Make
sure that one
of
the
follOWing
symbols
is
also
displayed
in
the
Operator Information Area:

Call,

The
Dial

the Operator
Information Area, indicating that the operator may enter the
dial
number
of
the host system. The cursor
is
now at the home position.

the host system line number if your terminal

the abbreviated line number [period ( . ) and two digits] if your
terminal

The number entered

displayed at the top
of
the screen. Ensure
that the number
is
the one
for
the host system with which you are
communicating. Then, press the ENTER key. The
Outgoing
Call
in
Process symbol (

will
be
displayed until the

Use
symbol

N ) appears.
Go
to step 4.
Notes:
1.
Under some conditions, the Call Progress Signal
symbol
("'~Nnn
)
will be displayed. The
Call
Progress Signal
is
from the X.21
network
and indicates the status
of
the
network
or
of
the remote terminal. The
meaning
of
the
Call
Progress Signal depends on the two digits (nn) after
N in
the
Call Progress Signal symbol.
