4. Open the release lever on the hot-swap hard disk drive and slide the drive into
the bay until it is firmly seated in the connector.
5. Lock the hot-swap hard disk drive into place by closing the release lever.
6. Check the hard disk drive status LEDs to make sure that the hard disk drive is
operating correctly.

Removing an I/O expansion adapter
Use this information to remove an I/O expansion adapter.
Before you begin
Before you remove the I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps:
1. Read “Safety” on page v and “Installation guidelines” on page 487.
2. If the compute node is installed in an IBM Flex System chassis, remove it (see
“Removing a compute node from a chassis” on page 489 for instructions).
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the
compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
Procedure
To remove an I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps.
Adapter
1. Remove the cover (see “Removing the compute node cover” on page 498).
2. Locate the I/O expansion adapter connectors (see “System-board layouts” on
page 16).
3. Open the retention clips ▌1▐.
4. Lift the I/O expansion adapter from the connector and remove the I/O
expansion adapter from the compute node ▌2▐. You might find it helpful to
rock the adapter back and forth to disengage the adapter.
What to do next
If you are instructed to return the I/O expansion adapter, follow all packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to
you.
