Removing and replacing a FRU
• System board without IBM security chip
Begin by checking the F R U number of the system board,
and be sure to use the correct system board F R U for the
computer. For the F R U numbers, see “Parts list” on page
134.

If the ThinkPad computer you are servicing has the
security chip, mind the following:
• Do n o t rem o ve th e se c u rity c h ip from th e
sys tem b o a rd. If the security chip is removed by
accident, reinstall it on the system board
immediately. Then ma k e sure that it is firmly fixed
on the system board and does not m o v e easily.
• The security chip c a n n o t be used with any other
system board.
• The system board c a n n o t be used with other
security chip.
• The system board c a n n o t be used without the
security chip.
• W h e n you return the defective system board
FRU, you must check whether the security chip is
firmly attached to the system board. If it is not
embedded, it m a y not be covered under warranty.
