9 Evaluating data with a PC
9.4 Opening CSV data on the PC
Processing in
EXCEL
h Start EXCEL (e.g. EXCEL 97).
h From the File menu, select the function Open.
h Switch the file type over to Text files.
h Open the corresponding CSV file.
EXCEL will automatically start the Text Wizard for converting the data to the
EXCEL format.
h In the EXCEL Text Wizard, step 1 of 3 is confirmed with “Continue”.
h With step 2 of 3, the “Tab” separator has to be inactivated and “Comma”
activated.
h Close the Text Wizard with “Close”.
The CSV file data are now available for displaying them graphically, or for
calculation purposes.
Decimal sign
In the more recent versions of EXCEL, the Text Wizard does no
longer start automatically.
h Open a blank table.
h Use the “Import external data” function in the “Data” menu.
According to the operating system language (German, English, ...),
a “.” (point) or “,” (comma) is used as decimal signs.
If required, use the EXCEL “Search and Replace” function for
conversion. If a wrong format is used, EXCEL will interpret the data
as text and not as numbers. This means that the data cannot
readily be displayed graphically.
