CHECK
CHECK.COM is a disk verification program for your
KAYPRO 10 hard disk. This program is for exper-
ienced users onLy.
Before using this program, there are some things you
shouLd know about your hard disk.
* Within the check program onLy, the hard disk is
addressed as drive 1. LogicaLLy, to the opera-
ting system, it is divided into drives A and B.
* Four read-write heads are used. Heads 0 and 1
access drive A. Heads 2 and 3 access drive B.
* Disk 1, cyLinder (same as track) 0, heads 0
through 3 refers to a criticaL area of the disk
containing the Operating System, BIOS, Error
-) messages, and some overLays for screen graphics.
ShouLd your KAYPRO 10 refuse to boot from the
hard disk, run the check program on this area.
If no permanent errors are reported, use PUTSYS
and PUTOVL to rewrite the system information .
The commands to CHECK for this area are:
FIRST DISK, LAST DISK? (0, 3) 1, 1
FIRST HEAD, LAST HEAD? (0, 3) 0, 3
FIRST CYLINDER, LAST CYLINDER? (0, 305) 0, 0
CyLinder 1 is reserved. Don't mess with it.
CyLinders 2 through 6 contain the direc-
tories for drives A and B.
CyLinders 6 through 305 define the data
storage area for your programs and data.
