Using KARMA
Turning KARMA on and off

1. PresstheKARMAON/OFFswitch,sothatthe
LEDislit.
WhentheLEDislit,KARMAison.
2. Pressakey,andKARMAwillbegintoplay.

Using the KARMA controllers
AllfactorysoundsaresetupforusewithKARMA.
SomearestoredwithKARMAonbydefault,and
othersarestoredwithKARMAoff,asshownbythe
LEDontheKARMAON/OFFswitch.
1. PressthePROGbuttontoenterProgrammode.
2. Selectasoundthatyoulike,andpressthe
KA
RMAON/O
FFbuttontoturnonKARMA.
Thebuttonwilllightup.
3. PresstheRTKNOBS/KARMAbuttonunder
CONTROLASSIGN.
Whenthisbuttonislit,theControlSurfaceslidersand
switcheswillcontrolKARMA.
4. GototheControlSurfacepage.
Thisshowsalloftheassignmentsandcurrentvalues
forthesliders,knobs,andbuttons.
Theslide
rsandthelowerrowofbuttonsarethe
KARMASlidersandSwitches.Thesecontrol
parameterswithinKARMA,whichwillvary
dependingontheProgram.
TheupperrowofbuttonsselectKARMAScenes,
whichstorevaluesfortheKARMASlidersand
Switches.
5. Presstheupperrowofbuttons,on
ebyone,to
sel
ectdifferentKARMAScenes.
NoticehowthisalsochangestheKARMASWITCH
andKARMASLIDERvalues,asshowninthedisplay.
Youcanmovebetweenentirelydifferentsettingsofall
thesecontrolssimplybypressingaKARMASCENE
switch.
Eachsceneindependentlyremembersanyeditsthat
youmakeviatheslidersandswi
tches.Editstoall8
scenesarestoredwhenyouwritetheProgram.
6. Movetheslidersandpressthebottomrowof
switches,andlistentotheeffectthattheyhaveon
thesound.
Theslidersandswitcheswillcontroldifferentthings
dependingonthecurrentProgramanditsKARMA
sett
ings.
Using KARMA in Combination mode
KARMAuses“modules”togeneratephrasesor
patterns.ProgramscanuseasingleKARMAmodule,
butCombinationscanuseuptofoursimultaneously.
Eachmodulecanplayaseparatesound(orgroupof
sounds)ifdesired.
Modulesareroutedtodifferentsoundsviathe
module’sMIDIinputandoutputchannels.

toselectthemodulethatyouwanttocontrol.
SelectMASTERtocontrolallfourKARMAmodules
simultaneously.
SelectA–DtocontroltheindividualKARMAmodules.
2. MoveandpresstheKARMAslidersandswitches.
Theslidersandswitcheswillcontrolthepatternor
phrasegeneratedbytheselectedmodu
le.
Playing chords with the Pads
TheKRONOSincludes8virtual“pads,”whichcanbe
playedbytouchingthescreen,fromMIDIinput,or
fromcompatibleUSBMIDIpaddevices.Youcanuse
thesePadstotriggerchordsforKARMA.
Toplaythepadsfromthescreen:
1. PresstheEQ/Vector/Controltab,andthenselect
thePadstab.
Thistakesyo
utothePadspage.
2. MakesurethattheonscreenEnablePadPlay
buttonislit.
3. Touchthepadstoplaytheirchords.
Dynamicsarecontrolledbywhereyoutouchthepad;
touchhigherforlouder,andlowerforsofter.
YoucanalsoplaythepadsusingKorgUSBMIDI
controllersequippedwithdrumpads,inc
ludingthe
nanoPADandnanoPAD2,padKONTROL,
microKONTROL,andKONTROL49.
TouseanyoftheseKorgcontrollers,simplyconnect
themtooneoftheKRONOS’stwoUSBAports.The
KRONOSwillautomaticallydeterminetheMIDI
assignmentsofthecontroller’spads18,andmapthem
directlytotheKRONOSpads.
