Therearetwowaystostoreyourworkonthe
KRONOS:WriteandSave.
YoucanuseWriteforPrograms,Combinations,Set
Lists,WaveSequences,DrumKits,andFXPresets—
everythingexceptforSongs,Samples,and
Multisamples.Writestoresintotheinternalmemory,
whichpersistsevenifyouturnpoweroffandonagain.

sdatatofilesondisk—eithertheinternal
driveorUSBstoragedevices.YoumustuseSavefor
Songs,Samples,andMultisamples.Saveisalsohandy
foralltheotherdatatypes,though.Forinstance,you
caneasilySavetheentirestateoftheKRONOS,
includingallus
ereditabledata,inasinglestep.
Hundredsofthesefileswillfitontotheinternaldrive.
Youcanusethisforbackups,andforsavingand
recallingsetupsforparticularprojects,gigs,andsoon.
Writing Programs
TowriteaProgramtotheinternalmemory:
1. SelecttheWriteProgramcommandfromthepage
menu,attheupperrighthandcornerofthescreen.
Youcanalsocallupthismenucommandbyholding
ENTERandpressing0onthenumerickeypad.
Thisbringsupadialogboxwhichallowsyoutosav
e
theProgram
.Optionally,youcanalsoselectanew
location,changetheProgram’sname,andassignittoa
soundcategory(suchaskeyboard,guitar,etc.).
2. Pressthe“T”buttontobringupthetextedit
dialog.
YoucangivetheProgramadescriptivenameusingthe
onscreenke
yboard.
3. Afterenteringthename,pressOK.
Thete
xteditwindowwilldisappear,returningyouto
themainWritedialog.
4. Under“To”atthebottomofthedialog,pressthe
popupbuttonnexttoProgramtobringupthesave
locationdialog.
5. SelectalocationtosavetheeditedProgram.
Fromthefactory,banksUSER
–GandAA…GGareleft
openforyouruse,containingonlyinitialized
Programs.Ifyoulike,youcanalsooverwriteanyofthe
factorysounds(exceptfortheGeneralMIDIsoundsin
IG),andeasilyreloadthemfromdiskatanytime.

Saving edits to GM Programs
YoucaneditGMPrograms,butyoumustthensave
themtoaBankotherthanIG;theGMPrograms
themselvescannotbeoverwritten.
Shortcut: Update via SEQUENCER REC/WRITE
YoucanalsousetheSEQUENCERREC/WRITEbutton
toquicklyupdatethecurrentProgram,usingthe
existingname,bank,number,andcategory.Todoso:
1. PresstheSEQUENCERREC/WRITEbutton.
TheUpdateProgramdialogwillappear.
2. PressOKtowritetheprogram.

AnythingthatyoucreateoreditintheKRONOScan
besavedtodisk.Thereareanumberoffiletypesfor
differenttypesofdata,butfornowwe’llconcentrate
onthethreemaintypes:.PCG,,.SNG,and.KSCfiles.
PCGstandsfor“Program,Combination,andGlobal.”
Thesefilescanalsoinc
ludeSetLists,WaveSequences,
DrumKits,userDrumTrackpatterns,anduser
KARMAGEs.PCGsarevariableinsize;theymay
includeonlyasinglebankofPrograms,forinstance,or
all13banksofalldatatypes.
SNGstandsfor“Song.”Thesefilesstoreallofthe
SongsfromSe
quencermode.
KSCstandsfor“KorgSampleCollection.”Thisisalist
alloftheMultisamplesandSamplesloadedinto
SamplingMode,alongwithalloftheloaded
MultisamplesandDrumSamplesfromEXsandUser
SampleBanks.Notethatthisisjustalistofwhich
samplesareloaded;theactualdataisstore
dseparately.
Youcanstoreallofthisdatatogetherinasinglestep.
1. PressthefrontpanelDISKbuttontoenterDisk
mode.
2. PresstheFiletab,andthentheSavetab,togoto
theDisk–Savepage.
3. Optionally,PressDriveSelecttoselectthedriveto
whichtosave.
Theinternaldiskisthedef
ault.Unlessyouwanttouse
anexternalUSBdevice,youdon’tneedtoselect
anythingdifferent.
4. Selectthedirectoryinwhichyouwanttosavethe
data.
