Controlling an External Device
When Control of EXTERNAL DEVICE is selected, you can set VP-550X to automatically
send RS-232 commands to an external device that is connected to one of the outputs. For
example, to turn off a projector when no video signal is detected on the VP-550X input.
To configure commands to send to an external device:
1. In the Navigation pane, click RS-232. The Audio RS-232 page appears.
2. Set RS-232 Control to Control of EXTERNAL DEVICE:

3. Under RS-232 Configuration set the RS-232 port parameters to enable communication
with the acceptor.
4. Configure the commands as follows:
▪ Enter the device command (for example, PWR OFF).
▪ Enter the command description.
▪ Select a trigger from the drop-down box which will activate the command (5V On, 5V
Off, Sync/Clock or No Sync/No Clock).
▪ Enter a delay time, if required.
▪ Check Hex to view the Hex format, if required.
▪ To enable the command, select the Enable checkbox.

5. Click Add.
