Symptom Action
Machine dials a number but fails to make a connection with another
fax machine.
The other fax machine may be turned off. Ask the fax
recipient to check their machine.
Incoming fax has blank spaces or poor quality.
• The sending fax machine may be faulty.
• The sending fax machine may have a dirty
document glass.
• A noisy phone line can cause errors.
• Check the MFP print quality by making a copy.
• The print cartridge may be empty.
Invalid fax partition, or fax partition too small. See “Format fax storage” on page 194.
Some words on an incoming fax are stretched. The sending fax machine had a temporary jam.
Faxes fail to transmit. See “Fax transmission service check” on page 146.
Fax reception fails. See “Fax reception service check” on page 144.
Rattling noise coming from the ADF unit. Inspect the ADF top cover and ADF separator pad for
proper installation. Remove the separator pad and
separator roll and reinstall them, if needed. See “ADF
separator pad removal” on page 234.

are +5VDC. Are the voltages present?
