How to troubleshoot no picture on Lightware Extender?

      Christopher AndersonAug 22, 2025
If your Lightware Extender is not displaying a picture, begin by confirming that all devices are correctly powered. A simple unplug and reconnect might solve the problem. Ensure all cable connections are firmly in place. Specifically, for optical cables, verify they are connected to the correct 'channel A' and 'channel B' ports. Using Neutrik OpticalCON Duo multimode fiber cable is recommended. If the fiber optic cable connector is contaminated, clean it carefully. If the Signal Present LED is off on the transmitter, there's no DVI signal; check the source and cable. Similarly, if the Signal Present LED is off on the receiver, check the source and fiber cable. If the EDID Status LED is red, choose a valid EDID. If the data rate is too high, select an EDID with lower resolution.

When your Lightware Extender doesn't show a picture, the first thing to check is that all devices have power. Try unplugging and plugging them back in. Make sure all the cables are well-connected. For optical cables, check they're in the right 'channel A' and 'channel B' connectors. It is recommended to use Neutrik OpticalCON Duo multimode fiber cable. If the fiber optic cable connector is dirty, clean it. If the Signal Present LED isn't on, there's no DVI signal at the transmitter; check the source and DVI cable. If the Signal Present LED isn't lit on the receiver, there is no signal on the optical input port; check the source and fiber cable. If the EDID Status LED is red, pick a valid EDID. If the data rate is too high, pick an EDID with a lower resolution.

Also, inspect the fiber optical cable connector for contamination and clean it with specialized equipment if necessary. If the Signal Present LED is not lit on the transmitter, check the source device and DVI cable for a DVI signal.
