According to the principles of good hygienic practice, the cleaning and disinfection of the delivery
room, its equipment and all the medical devices used, must be made directly and promptly after the
delivery (birth) in order to prepare the equipment for a new delivery. These principles apply also to
the cleaning and disinfection of the delivery bed. All parts of the delivery bed must be cleaned. The
procedure must be verified and/or supplemented to be in compliance with the respective hospital
guidelines, recommended hygiene rules and implemented procedures. After a bed has been used
by a patient with infectious disease, the cleaning and disinfection of the bed must be done in ac-
cordance with valid and agreed hospital rules and implemented procedures. To reduce the risk of
infection transmission, the pre-treated protective covering drapes and/or covering fabrics must be
used, to avoid the contact of the skin of a woman in labour with the upholstery of the components
of the delivery bed - seat, back, foot part and footrests.
