ATSC
Acronym that stands for Advanced Television
SystemsCommittee and the name of the
digital broadcasting standards.
Aspect Ratio
The width ofa TV screen relative to its
height. Conventional TVs are 4:3 (in
other words, the screen isalmost square);
widescreen models are 16:9 (the screen is
almost twice aswide as its height).
Dolby Digital
The system developed by Dolby Labora-
tories to compress digital sound. It offers
stereo sound (2ch) or multi-channel audio.

Ultimate digital format that produces high
resolution and high picture quality.
NTSC
Acronym that stands for National Television
Systems Committee and the name of the
current analog broadcasting standards,
Password
A stored 4-digit number that allows access
to parental control features.
Region Code
Regions associate discs and players with
particular areas of the world, this unit will
only play back discs that have compatible
region codes.You can find the region code
of your unit by looking on the rear panel.
Some discs are compatible with more than
one region (or all regions).
SDTV (standard definition TV)
Standard digital format that is similar to the
NTSC picture quality.

Wipethe panelwitha soft cloth. Beforecleaningthepanel,disconnectthe
powercord.
Shouldyourunitbecomeinoperative,donottryto correcttheproblem
yourself.Thereare nouserserviceablepartsinside.Turnoffthe unit,
unplugthe powercordandcallourtollfreecustomersupportlinefoundon
thecoverof thismannalto locateanauthorizedservicecenter.
Adegaussingcircuitin thisunitclearsupcolorerrorsonthe TVscreen.
Colorerrorsoccurwhenthereisanyexcessmagnetismcloseto theunit.
Thiscircuitisdesignedto operateoncewhentheunit isfirst pluggedin. If
youseeminorcolorerrorsonthescreen,unplugthe unitforapproximately
30 minutes.Whenyouplugthe unit again,thedegaussingcircuitwill
operateto clearerrors.Takethisstepanytime theTVscreenisaccidentally
magnetizedorwhenyoumovethe unit.
Ifthe unitstilldoesnot performproperlywhenit isoperated,whilerefer-
ringtothe relevantsectionsandto"TroubleshootingGuide"inthisowner's
manual,thelaseropticalpickupunitmaybedirty.Consultyourdealer
oranAuthorizedServiceCenterfor inspectionandcleaningof thelaser
opticalpickupunit.
•Handlethediscssothatfingerprints anddustdonot adhereto the
surfacesof thediscs.
•Alwaysstore thediscinitsprotectivecasewhen itis not used.
•Toclean-off,useasoftcloth.
•Donot usea hardclothsincethiswillmarthedisc.
•Wipethediscinastraightlinefromcenterto edge.
•Neverwipewith a circularmotion.
•Donot usedetergentorabrasivecleaningagents.
Ifthe remotecontrolisnotworkingproperly,youcanuseanAMradioor
digitalcamera(includingacellularphonewith built-incamera)toseeifit
issendingoutaninfraredsignal.
•With an AM radio:
Tunethe AMradiostationto anon-broadcasting
frequency.Pointtheremotecontroltowardsit,
pushanybuttonandlisten.If thesoundfromthe
radioflutters,it isreceivingthe remotecontrol's
infraredsignal.
• With a digital camera
(includingbuilt-incellphone
cameras)
Pointa digitalcamera
towardsthe remotecontrol.
Pushanybuttononthe
remotecontrolandlook
throughthe digitalcamera.
Ifthe infraredlight appears
throughthe camera,the
remotecontrolisworking.
