SEISMICRESTRAINT
NewZealandregulationsrequirethatfluedgasheatersbesecuredtopreventshiftingintheeventofan
earthquake.Thisisbestdonebyfasteningtheheatertothefloorrightthroughanyfloorprotectorthat
maybefitted.Fastenwithtwoscrewsnotlessthan12gaugeor theequivalentincoachscrewsor
togglefasteners.Anchortheappliancethroughtheholesintheseismicrestraintbracketorinthetwo
anglebracketssupplied.Theanglebracketsattachateachsideofthepedestal.Iftheseismicrestraint
bracketisusedinstead,itcanbefastenedtotherearofthepedestaleitherbeforeorafterfittingthe
anchorscrews.Thesmallcentrelineholeinthebracketwillhelpinpre-positioningit.

TESTFIRING
Itisabsolutelyessentialthattheinstallertestfirestheheaterbeforeleavingthesite.
Iffitted,openthegassupplyvalveattherearoftheheaterandcheckallgasjointsforleakageusing
aleakchecksolutionoranelectronic‘sniffer’,NOTanakedflame.
Carryoutthefollowingtestfiringprocedure.
LIGHTTHEPILOT:-
NOTE:Thepilotcanbeseenthroughtheholeintherighthandendofthefrontlog.
BostonandOdessamodels:-
•Pressdownonthecontrolknobatthetopoftheheaterandturnitslowlyanticlockwise.
Thepiezoigniterwillclickasasparkjumpsacrosstheterminalsatthepilotlight.Itmay
benecessarytorepeatthisseveraltimesbeforethepilotignitesifthereisairinthepilot
lightpipeline.
SantaFemodels:-
•Turnthecontrolknobanti-clockwisetothe‘PILOT’position.Holdthecontrolknobdown
while pressing the red button of the battery igniter (alongside the control knob). A
continuousspark should appearat thepilot light. It may be necessary to hold the red
buttondownforsometimeifthereisairinthepilotlightpipeline.NotethattheSantaFe
valveincorporatesasafetyfeaturewhichpreventsre-lightingthefirewithintwominutes
ofshuttingitdown.
ONCETHEPILOTISALIGHT:-
BostonandOdessamodels:-
•Keepholdingthecontrolknobdownfor15secondsafterignition.Releasethepressureon
thecontrolknob–thepilotshouldremainalightwhentheknobrises.
