Inspect the Coolant Recovery Reservoir Fluid Level
Check the coolant level in the coolant recovery reservoir. The coolant level should be at or above the COLD mark at ambient
temperature, and between the COLD and HOT marks when the engine is operating and warmed up.

Filling
1. Allow the engine to cool to the ambient air temperature.
2. Remove the cap from the coolant recovery reservoir.
3. If the coolant is low in the coolant recovery reservoir, add the specified coolant as necessary to the level previously
indicated.
Antifreeze Specification
ASTM D4985 or ASTM D6210
IMPORTANT: Tighten the cap to prevent coolant loss.
4. Install the cap and tighten securely.
Changing the Engine Coolant

CAUTION
A sudden loss of pressure can cause hot coolant to boil and discharge violently, resulting in serious injury from burns. Allow
the engine to cool down before removing the coolant pressure cap.
The engine coolant must be replaced at the prescribed interval. Refer to Maintenance Schedules.
Engine Coolant Capacity
24.5 Liter (25.9 US qt)
IMPORTANT: The following engine coolant service replacement procedure does not completely drain the engine coolant. It is
recommended that a Mercury Diesel service technician replace the engine coolant to ensure that the engine coolant is properly
replaced. A Mercury Diesel service technician has the proper training and tools to completely drain the coolant.
1. Allow the engine to cool to the ambient air temperature.
